About

At the foot of Scotland’s Pentland Hills, the Penicuik Estate is a hidden haven for couples seeking an immersive wedding week. Dating back to 1654, this pioneering rural retreat blends historic charm with stunning landscapes, offering a private, exclusive-use oasis. At its heart, the Palladian Penicuik House provides a refined and inviting setting for a ceremony (and a sleepover, with eleven elegant suites and five en-suite bedrooms), featuring original artworks from Old Penicuik House. Al fresco ceremonies here are particularly special, making use of the High Pond Reserve which can accommodate 250 guests for waterside vows in the surround of ancient woodland. For parties of up to 48, a collection of cosy self-catered cottages are scattered across the estate, each with wood-burning stoves, roll-top baths, outdoor terraces with cedar hot tubs – ideal for relaxed pre-wedding gatherings or post-ceremony boardgame nights. From scenic walking and cycling trails to private yoga sessions, gin tastings, and afternoons at Eksfield’s spa, the week can ebb and flow according to the preferences of the wedding party, with flexible catering options including private chefs and BBQ hampers. But the real luxury Penicuik provides is a stage set for a wedding of adventure and time together.

Testimonials

Penicuik Estate is truly special. This is unique and stylish luxury accommodation at its best. The cottage is beautifully furnished with stylish interiors that are also very cosy and comfortable. Every single detail has been carefully curated and we noticed it. There was plenty of fire wood, board games, a top quality sound system, a fully fitted kitchen and even oil, herbs and spices provided for cooking. We lit a cosy fire and relaxed with wine and cheese. A highlight was the outdoor cedar hot tub surrounded by beautiful pine trees – we could have been in Scandinavia, it was bliss! So picturesque and peaceful – it’s hard to believe this is so close to Edinburgh.  I highly recommend staying here, you will love it!

Penicuik Estate is good for the soul. Stunning natural beauty enhanced by a managed landscape matured over several centuries, immaculately restored houses and cottages, abundant outdoor choices, and seemingly effortless (and invisible) service, all combine to deliver an immersive and deeply uplifting experience. Eskfield cottage was our home for two days and it was hard to leave behind the early morning hot tub experience, the flat white coffees on tap, the sauna following a day of hiking, the swim in the Upper Pond, the peaceful time spent on the terrasse overlooking the historic walled garden and the extraordinarily comfortable bed (Hypnos mattress and duck down duvets).
