Gosfield Hall is a pretty Grade I listed Georgian manor near Braintree, in Essex. Less than two hours from London, this historic house, which has counted Elizabeth I and King Louis XVII as houseguests, is set in ten acres of green. The expanse will be entirely yours to take over, with ceremony spaces that include the oak-panelled Queen Charlotte’s Gallery with a cinematic 120-ft-long aisle and the Grand Salon with double-height sash windows and marble flooring, in addition to two outside spaces at the heart of the courtyard. The three-course wedding breakfast is in the splendid backdrop of the Marquis of Buckingham’s former ballroom, with luminescent crystal chandeliers and hand-frescoed ceiling details. Guests can spill out over various afterparty spaces, among them the library, complete with dimpled sofas and roaring fires; the terrace; and the designated disco room, for dancing fuelled into the early hours by a late-night evening buffet. The honeymoon suite is a big pull here, much commented on for its pillowy beds and palatial setting, and rest assured the guest list will also be well accommodated in 23 spacious suites. Celebrations can be one day or two, with the option to stretch proceedings over the expanse of the weekend, hosting your party at the nine-bed Grade I listed pub The Marquis, just two minutes down the road.
We fell in love with the venue as soon as we arrived and it was even more perfect on our wedding day. All the staff were attentive, professional and went above and beyond. So many of our guests said it was the best wedding they had attended. Food was stunning, cocktails made to perfection and grounds well kept and beautiful. I was in the Rococo Suite which was outstanding and the other bedrooms were also very high quality.

The house always takes my breath away. It is stunning, well-presented, and the grass looked very luscious (husband is an ex-groundskeeper, so high praise indeed!). All guests remarked on the level of luxury in the bedrooms, the Honeymoon Suite was particularly lovely. Our Personal Wedding Manager was an absolute diamond – If I could do higher than excellent, I would. She made us feel so relaxed and made sure everything was absolutely perfect. Nothing was too much trouble, and everyone was just so smiley and friendly. And such lovely food, one guest said it was the best wedding breakfast she had ever had!
